About the Placer Mercury

Dear Neighbor,

The Placer Mercury is a new community-oriented newspaper produced and distributed to serve readers primarily in Roseville and Rocklin and Greater Placer County. We will bring our readers general news stories, local business and real estate news, special announcements, news on events, local commentaries and editorials, church news, entertainment listings, seniors news, local sports, volunteer news, syndicated columnists, cartoons and games.

Our distribution is by U.S. Mail, home delivery and approximately 250 locations, (i.e. newsstands, retailers and restaurants). We believe we must provide the best possible distribution to serve our advertisers, helping them to thrive within these communities.

My background in publishing includes over twenty-five years of management in newspaper and magazine publishing. Our contributors all have publishing experience, which will help us to better serve our advertisers and readers. We believe this will drive the Messenger to become a solid publishing choice within these communities.

If there is ever a problem, either with an advertisement, a story or editorial, or even distribution, it will be handled promptly and courteously, as customer service is what keeps people loyal to a local publication.

I personally hope you will invest in our publication, either by advertising or by subscribing. Your support is what makes it possible to give our community what it really wants in a hometown newspaper.

Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to produce a quality community newspaper that gives our readers local news, information and resources in an easy to read format that makes the experience of reading it a joy.

We base our publishing decisions on sound customer service and business practices and the understanding that our product is our vehicle to promote, uplift and improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.

Circulation Plan

The Mercury reaches approximately 50,000 readers per issue in the Roseville and Rocklin and Greater Placer County.

We mail approximately 7,000 to specific homes and businesses in these communities.

We home deliver approximately 8,000 to specific homes in these communities.

We distribute nearly 5,000 to well over 250 retail, newsstand and restaurant locations throughout these areas.

We also sample approximately 1,000 to other specific areas through our subscription campaign, as well as at community promotional events.

How does this add up to 50,000 readers? The standard number of readers per issue in the newspaper business, as determined by newspaper auditing bureaus, is 2.5 readers per issue. We multiply our print run by that number, then subtract the newsstand return copies for the conservative number of 50,000.
