AUBURN, CA (MPG) - Placer County Animal Services is marking 10 years at its Animal Services Center in Auburn, and inviting the community to join the celebration. A special anniversary event will be held Monday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at the center, located at 11232 B Ave.

The event will feature comments from county leaders, tours, photo opps, a memory wall and $10 adoptions (which will continue throughout the rest of November).

The Placer County Animal Services Center opened in 2016, expanding capacity to care for significantly more pets — approximately 80% more dogs and 75% more cats than the former facility — and doubling space for animals during major emergencies such as wildfires.

“Over the past decade, partnerships with local cities, county departments and animal welfare organizations have allowed this facility to serve thousands more pets and families across the region,” said Animal Services Manager Katie Ingram. “We’re proud to mark 10 years in this state‑of‑the‑art space and we’ll keep pushing for innovation.”

Since opening ten years ago, the center has maintained a live release rate of over 92%, adopted out 13,566 animals and returned another 7,082 to their owners. Animal Control officers have also responded to 78,597 calls in that time. Volunteer engagement has grown substantially as well, with more than 150 volunteers contributing more than 100,000 hours over the past decade. The facility has been a hub of community support during disasters including the Mosquito and River fires, assisting with animal rescue, transportation and sheltering. Modern features like the veterinary area and outdoor exercise areas have been improved further over the years with the support of donations, including new shade structures and an X-ray machine.

To commemorate the anniversary, past adopters are also encouraged to share updates and adoption stories with the @PlacerAnimals accounts on Facebook or Instagram, or stop by the shelter to write or post photos on the memory wall.
