AUBURN, CA (MPG) - After undergoing 18 months of renovations, the Placer County Library on Nevada Street in Auburn is ready to welcome the community back with a grand reopening celebration on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The festivities begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m., followed by guided tours, family-friendly activities and opportunities for residents to explore the newly renovated library throughout the day.

The nearly $10 million renovation transformed the more than 50-year-old library into a modern, accessible space while preserving one of Auburn's most cherished community resources.

"The Auburn Library has served generations of residents, and we're excited to welcome the community back to a space that's been thoughtfully updated for the future," said Library Director Amy Boese. "These improvements will help ensure the library remains a welcoming place to learn, connect and discover for decades to come."

The renovation included significant infrastructure upgrades, including new electrical systems, heating and air conditioning units, an elevator, fully accessible public restrooms, fire sprinkler systems, upgraded telecommunications and modern lighting controls. Together, these improvements enhance accessibility, safety and comfort for library visitors.

"This is an exciting milestone for Auburn and for all of Placer County," said District 5 Supervisor Cindy Gustafson. "The Auburn Library is more than just a building - it's a gathering place for our community. This investment ensures future generations will continue to enjoy a library that is accessible, welcoming and equipped to meet the needs of our growing community."

During construction, library services temporarily relocated to the Placer County Finance Administration building in North Auburn, allowing patrons to continue accessing books, programs and other library services while renovations were underway. Services there will continue through Monday, Aug. 17, and then close in anticipation of the Nevada Street location’s re-opening.
