AUBURN, CA (MPG) - The Placer County Library will kick off its annual Summer Reading Program on June 7, inviting readers of all ages to participate in a dinosaur-themed adventure designed to encourage reading, literacy and lifelong learning.
The 2026 program, themed "Jurassic Summer Reading Program: Unearth a Story!," runs through Aug. 8 and includes reading challenges, special events and prize opportunities at all library locations, including Auburn, Colfax, Foresthill, Granite Bay, Kings Beach, Rocklin, Tahoe City and the Library on Wheels.
Participants can earn "trading stones" by logging reading minutes and completing activities throughout the summer. The stones can be redeemed for prizes at library trading posts. Readers who complete the challenge will also receive an "I Survived Jurassic Summer Reading Program" sticker.
The program will feature performances and activities at library branches throughout the county, including music, science demonstrations, acrobatics and live animal presentations. The summer will conclude with a Jurassic Jamboree celebration. Registration is required for all events.
“Did you know library scientists have discovered a new dinosaur? It’s called a Thesaurus,” Library Services Director Amy Boese said.
“Placer County Library’s Jurassic Summer Reading Program promises to inspire a love of reading and exploration for the whole family,” Boese said. “We will have an action-packed summer. Come and ‘Unearth a Story’ with us.”
The free program is open to readers of all ages. Registration begins June 7 at placer.beanstack.org or through the Beanstack mobile app.
