Logue Investigation into Department of Consumer Affairs Produces Results

SACRAMENTO – North State Assemblyman Dan Logue (R-Linda) has announced that his investigation into improper actions by the Department of Consumer Affairs has resulted in a moratorium on illegal property seizures. Logue was responding to reports that agents from the Bureau of Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation were entering businesses without just cause and removing furniture for “testing” without compensation to the business owners.

John Maloof, the constituent who first contacted Assemblyman Logue regarding this issue, has received a personal call and apology from Rick Fong of the Department of Consumer Affairs (Chief of the Home Furnishings Bureau).

“He offered the apologies of the BCA. He also told me the Bureau has suspended any further investigations of retailers involving the conduct I was subjected to, and that he anticipated legislative changes would be made to current regulations under which the Bureau operates,” stated Maloof. “I was pleased to hear him acknowledge that basic Constitutional issues are at stake.”

Assemblyman Logue has expressed his appreciation for the Department of Consumer Affairs’ quick and decisive action in this matter. When asked to comment, Logue stated “I’m glad that these unconstitutional practices have been stopped, and that Californians will have their rights protected. I also want to thank Bill Leonard, the Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, for working with us in getting to the bottom of this.”

“I will work to ensure that this does not happen again by any state agency,” added Logue.

Assemblyman Logue represents the 3rd Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes the communities of Butte, Lassen, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra and Yuba.
