June is Adopt-a-Cat Month: Adoption Fees Waived for Adult Cats at Placer SPCA

Roseville, CA – You have heard of the dog days of summer… well, welcome to the cat days of spring. June is nationally recognized as Adopt-a-Cat Month, and at Placer SPCA that means all adult cats one year and older are free to great homes. Placer SPCA is waiving adoption fees in order to make room for kittens and bring attention to loving adult cats, who are often the better choice for families seeking a mellow companion animal with an established personality.

Homeless kittens and cats arrive at Placer SPCA’s Companion Animal Center daily. Cats can get pregnant as young as four months old, and can have three or four litters in a year.

“We have more than 280 kittens being cared for by foster volunteers right now,” said Placer SPCA CEO Leilani Vierra. “As kitten season gets under way, we are bracing for even more kittens than last year – and last year set a new record!”

Placer County residents who have an unaltered cat are urged to take advantage of Placer SPCA’s Spay and Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP). Through SNAP, Placer SPCA pays half of a reduced cost to spay and neuter cats, pitbull and pitbull mix dogs, and rabbits. Caring Placer County residents seeking to spay or neuter feral cats can do so at an even more reduced cost of $5 per cat through a partnership between Placer SPCA and Animal Spay and Neuter Clinic of Auburn. All cats adopted from Placer SPCA are spayed or neutered, have received a FELV/FIV test, are microchipped, have a pet identification tag. All adopters receive a voucher for a free veterinary exam.
